Iowa Figures to Cover Double Digit NCAA Football Odds

by BetUS.com
The #10 Iowa Hawkeyes figure to cover a double-digit NCAA Football odds online spread against inter-state rival Iowa Sate on Saturday, Sept. 11th.
Iowa has dominated Iowa State straight up in recent years. The Hawkeyes haven’t allowed the Cyclones to score a touchdown against them since 2006.
Although many Iowa State fans hope things will be different this time when the two teams meet, it’s hard to imagine it being that much different.

Iowa’s defense is fantastic and Iowa State’s offense tends to make mistakes. In any case, keep reading to find out why this might be one of the better games to bet this Saturday based on NCAAF odds handicapping.
- Iowa State Cyclones vs. #10 Iowa Hawkeyes
Where: Kinnick Stadium, Iowa City, Iowa
When: September 11th, 2010 at 3:30 pm EST
NCAA Football Betting Odds:
Iowa State Cyclones +13 ½ -110
Iowa Hawkeyes -13 ½ -110
Surprisingly, the trends favor the Cyclones in this game.
- The Iowa State Cyclones are 10 and 2 ATS in the last 12 meetings between these two teams.
- The Iowa State Cyclones are 7 and 1 ATS in their last 8 games on the road.
- The Iowa Hawkeyes are 1 and 5 ATS in their last 6 games at home.
- The Iowa Hawkeyes are 5 and 1 ATS in their last 6 non-conference games.
The trends say that Iowa State covers the spread. Although it’s hard argue against a 10 and 2 trend, that’s exactly what I’m going to do because I believe that the Hawkeyes are that much better than the Cyclones this season.
Not only does Iowa have perhaps the best defensive front four in college football, but they also have a terrific quarterback in Ricky Stanzi and running back Jewel Hampton should be back this week after riding out a one game suspension.
Iowa RB Adam Robinson ran for 109 yards in last week’s 37 to 7 victory over Eastern Illinois. With Hampton and Robinson splitting carries, expect the Hawkeyes to dominate the ground game this Saturday.
I have to admit that I’m puzzled as to why the NCAAF expert odds on this game are only 13 ½. That’s what I mean by NCAAF odds handicapping. If the odds listed, Iowa -13 ½, don’t make sense to me, I handicap the odds. To me, Iowa should be around a 17 ½ point favorite in this game.
They beat Iowa State 35 to 3 on the road last year. This year, they play Iowa State at home. They have as dominant of a defense on paper this year as they did last year and their running game should be better with Jewel Hampton back in the fold. I have no idea why Iowa State is only a 13 ½ point dog in this game.
Maybe, the fact that Iowa State had two running backs rush for over 100 yards against the Hawkeyes last season means something to some sports gamblers, or, maybe, sports gamblers are looking at the fact that Iowa State committed 6 turnovers in last year’s rout.
That’s all well and good but the NCAAF odds against the spread line are still well below where I believe it should be. Even without 6 turnovers, Iowa is definitely at least 15 points better than Iowa State.
That’s the way that I’m gong to play it. I believe that the Hawkeyes roll over their inter-state rivals this Saturday and make a statement to the BCS bowl voters.
NCAA Football Betting Pick: Iowa Hawkeyes -13 ½ -110
