How Many Wins Can Carroll Lead Seahawks to in First Season?

After suffering through two consecutive ignominious seasons, Seattle Seahawks will be looking to get back to being respectable at the very least when they step on the gridiron at Qwest Field for their 2010 regular season opener in what will be head coach Pete Carroll’s inaugural season at the helm of the franchise.

After going 5-11 last season, the Seahawks imported Pete Carroll out of the football factory he created at USC over the last decade to give him his second shot at becoming a successful head coach in the NFL.

In one season as the head coach of the New York Jets and three seasons as the top man of the New England Patriots, Pete Carroll compiled a respectable, but not glowing 33-31 career mark while going 1- 2 in three postseason games.

Now, both Pete Carroll and the Seahawks are hoping to achieve greatness as they begin a rebuilding plan that has gotten off to a fine start as Seattle engineered what I fully believe was the finest draft of any NFL team this offseason.

Let me get started with my in-depth breakdown on the Seahawks’ upcoming season and just how many avid NFL gambling fans can expect them to win this coming regular season.

Seattle opens the regular season by alternating home and away games for its first four contests. The Seattle Seahawks at home against the 49ers before hitting the road to face Denver and then coming back home again to host San Diego.

I can’t see the Seahawks beating an improved 49ers team that is expected to compete for the division title, nor can I imagine the Birds winning at Denver or at home against the likely, Super Bowl-contending Chargers.

This puts Seattle in a bind at 0-3 going on the road to face an equally desperate St. Louis Rams team where they will … likely lose, to fall to 0-4 before their Week 5 bye.

The Seahawks then head to Chicago where I see a fairly close game that results in another loss before coming back home to narrowly fall to an Arizona Cardinals ballclub that is clearly better, even without Hall of Fame-bound signal-caller Kurt Warner.

The Seahawks will likely have a chance to record their first win at Oakland in Week 8 but I’m thinking the Raiders will be desperate themselves at this point and will somehow manage to pull out the win to fall to 0-7.

The Seahawks then go on to lose at home against the Giants and on the road against both, Arizona and New Orleans.

I know I’ve got the Seahawks at either 0-10 or 1-9, but believe it or not, I think the Seahawks will get things headed in the right direction by beating both, Kansas City and Carolina at home to move to 2-10 or 3-9 after a dozen games.

The Seahawks then close out the regular season at San Francisco, home against Atlanta, on the road against Tampa Bay and at home in the regular season finale, against St. Louis.

I can’t see the Seahawks beating a possibly playoff-bound Niners team on the road and they certainly won’t beat the Falcons at home either.

The Seahawks will have a shot at beating the similarly rebuilding Buccaneers on the road and St. Louis at home, and even if I give the Seahawks both victories, that gives them a grand total of six wins, or possibly a maximum of seven, which isn’t a particularly bad number for the Seahawks and Carroll in their first season together.

I like the Seahawks for six wins and a solid six-game finishing stretch of the regular season but no way, do I see eight wins for Seattle in 2010.

Seattle’s no-division games against Denver, San Diego, New York, New Orleans and Atlanta, all look like sure-fire losses for the Hawks, but I wouldn’t worry too much, this team is clearly being assembled to win in the near future, not right now.
