Early BCS Bowl Games NCAA College Football Odds

A quick review of the teams, lines and free picks for the biggest bowl games the sport of football has to offer fans who bet on college football.

Fiesta Bowl:
Connecticut Huskies (+17) vs. #7 Oklahoma Sooners (-17)

In perhaps the strangest turn of events, the Connecticut Huskies burst into the BCS as an unranked team and face the largest college bowl betting line on the entire board. I don’t mean just the BCS games either.

The Huskies face an absolutely massive +17-point spread in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl and, while that is a completely fair line all things considered, the one thing you might have trouble betting against is this team’s resiliency.

After being shut out by Louisville in late October by a score of 0-23, the Huskies have actually gone 5-0 SU and ATS, relying on one of the best rushing attacks in the country that grinds opposing defense down, while keeping their defense fresh and rested.

All of this is important, considering that Oklahoma scores 36.4 points per game. The Sooners were able to end their season with a tight 23-20 win over the Cornhuskers, but have never faced a team that runs the ball as well as UConn. This may be a fair line, but I’m taking the points in early college bowl betting lines for now. I just love how angry these Huskies are.

Orange Bowl:
#13 Virginia Tech Hokies vs. #4 Stanford Cardinal

Andrew Luck likely won’t be fortunate enough to win the Heisman, but being matched up against the ACC Champion Virginia Tech Hokies is a gift in itself. The ACC has been abysmal in college football betting, going just 2-10 SU in BCS bowls.

Both teams have been terrific spread busters, combining for an incredible 17-5-1 ATS record, and while the Hokies seem to have finally pulled themselves out of a seemingly inescapable hole earlier this season, they’ll run in to a brick wall in the form of Stanford.

BetUS Sportsbook Early College Bowl Betting Pick: Stanford -3.0

Rose Bowl:
#3 TCU Horned Frogs vs. #5 Wisconsin Badgers

Getting over the hump in the Big Ten has always been the problem for the Wisconsin Badgers, who find themselves stacked up against a team I believe is firmly one of the best in the country. Despite the crap-infested MWC, the Badgers finally earned the respect of the BCS and are returning to the Rose Bowl for the first time in 11 years.

While both TCU and Wisconsin average a bewildering 43.3 points per game, TCU’s defense is outstanding. They rank as the best overall scoring defense in the league, allowing just 11.4 points per game. While much of that can be attributed to the conference they play in, a 47-7 drubbing against Utah proved it isn’t a fluke.

Deservedly, TCU is the 3-point favorite and won’t have to worry about any further speculation in the BCS when they finally transfer to an automatic bid conference in the Big East.

They’ll prove in the Rose Bowl why Wisconsin should be counting their blessings that they aren’t migrating to the Big Ten.

BetUS Sportsbook Early College Bowl Betting Pick: TCU -3.0

Sugar Bowl:
#8 Arkansas Razorbacks vs. #6 Ohio State Buckeyes

A loss to Wisconsin virtually buried the Ohio State Buckeyes at mid-season in the polls, but they only used the disrespect from the pollsters as motivation to barrel through the rest of the college football betting season with vigor and flare. Ohio State finished the season 5-0 SU and 4-0-1 ATS while throttling Michigan in The Game 37-7.

What stands out most about this matchup is the concept of “elite status.” Jim Tressel has enjoyed being one of the biggest and best programs in the country, and Arkansas is seeking that same type of validity in a talent-heavy SEC league as well. This will be the Razorbacks’ first appearance in the Sugar Bowl in 30 years and they’re currently listed as three-point dogs in early college bowl betting lines.

This game is all about respect, and I’d say that Tressel has never had an offensive weapon like Terrell Pryor and will unleash him against a vulnerable Arkansas defense. The ‘Backs took a big step in the right direction, but they should win an SEC title first before they start thinking about claiming victory in the Sugar Bowl.

BCS Championship Game:
#2 Oregon Ducks vs. #1 Auburn Tigers

While I won’t say that the BCS system routinely works, I will say that it sure as hell did this year. There is no doubt that Oregon and Auburn deserve to be in the national title game. Not only are they the clear top-two teams in the country, they also boast the best two college playmakers we’ve seen this year.

LaMichael James is an incredible running back and, as a sophomore, he’s certainly come on very strong. The difficulty for him will be finding holes against an Auburn defense that boasts incredible backfield penetration abilities.

And what can you say about Cameron Newton’s incredible season? He’s an unstoppable freight train of scoring and fell just two-yards short of gaining 4,000 total yards from scrimmage this season. He was also just two-scores short of notching 50 touchdowns.

Hold a gun to my head and I’m taking the Auburn Tigers in early college bowl betting lines, largely because Newton has the ball in his hands on every play. James doesn’t.

BetUS Sportsbook Early College Bowl Betting Pick: Auburn -3.0
