Basketball Prediction: Bradley Braves at Creighton Bluejays
Saturday, January 28, 2012
by Joe Rodriguez
The last time Creighton Bluejays and Bradley Braves met, Doug McDermott poured in 44 points for the Creighton, the highest total by a Division I player this year.
The Bluejays nearly blew a 20-point lead but hung on to win in Peoria 92-83. The 14th-ranked Bluejays will try to extend their winning streak to 10, while last-place Bradley looks to end a seven game losing streak on the road.
Creighton needs a win to keep pace with Wichita State in the Missouri Valley and avoid a disastrous "bad loss" on its NCAA Tournament résumé.

Justbet Sportsbook currently have the Bluejays listed as 19-point favorites versus the Braves.
Bradley Braves (6-16): Taylor Brown has been the one bright spot for Bradley, which has lost 12 of its last 13 games. The senior forward sat out last season as doctors evaluated his heart, but returned this year to lead the Braves with 16.7 points per game. Brown scored 25 in the loss to Creighton earlier this month and hit all five of his attempts from beyond the arc. The Braves have struggled shooting from the outside, hitting only 31 percent of attempts.
Creighton Bluejays (19-2): The last time Creighton started 19-2 was in 2003 with Kyle Korver. That team wound up 29-5, but finished second to Southern Illinois in the Valley and lost in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. This year's team has much loftier goals. Creighton leads the country in field goal percentage (.514) and 3-point percentage (.451), a direct effect of the team's dynamic ability to share the ball. McDermott (23.5 points) looks to be a safe bet to become the first sophomore to win the Missouri Valley Player of the Year.
1. Bradley has lost 13 straight in Omaha, its longest road losing streak in a series in program history.
2. Bradley is 0-11 when it allows 70 points or more. Creighton averages 81.2 points per game, ninth in the country.
3. Creighton players will be wearing pink uniforms for the game as part of the “Creighton v. Cancer Pink Out.”
BASKETBALL PREDICTION: Bluejays 81, Braves 57.
